Fernanda Olivares erases the boundaries between two different disciplines; dance and painting. During her training as a dancer, she learned that discipline and the consideration of our body as an habitat is the starting point to push out our own limits. Working with live dancers and performers from dance worldwide has opened Olivares´background to different approaches and statements of ballet, butoh, and MMA. Currently, she inmortilizes ephemeral nature of dance in the permanence of painting; making a switch from a feeling body to a “seen body”.

Color is crucial in her work, she is interested in how illumination affects bodies in theatrical and dreamy pastel atmospheres. Color in her paintings resembles the costumes in show vividly represented. Composition is part of Olivares´interests whenever she works; percieving the body as a basic unity capable of creating tensión one  and other.  The dancer is seen as a vital and kinetic being.

Olivares is an active artist in dance and art world. Her latest solo exhibition Bailemos! took place at Palacio de Minería Museum. Her paintings have been shown in different solo and group exhibitions at Universidad Iberoamericana, The Mexican Dance Museum, Alfredo Zalce Biennial, Young Art Prize 2014, The Education Ministry of the Spanish Embassy, Florence Biennale 2015, The National Intelectual Property Institute, etc. Olivares work lives in private and public collections in London,Florence, and Mexico. She has participated in lectures and events about Dance Theory such as the Second International Colloquium of Dance Phenomenology at FCC, the National Philosophy and Dance Colloquium from the Philosophy School, UNAM. She has also presented Carmen Merlo´s  Book  about  Dance Therapy and María´s Fux Method. Her work is currently related to the National Classical Dance Company  (INBA)in Mexico City.
